The fire of Hell in psychedelic rock

In 1968, when the British group led by The Crazy World Arthur Brown took the stage, the audience was literally shocked. The psychedelic rock sound without guitars but with a powerful accompaniment of a Hammond electric organ, immediately jumped on top of the charts, despite and perhaps because of the furious criticisms leveled against the look of the group, particularly that of its leader, Arthur Brown .

were many, for the time, scandalous elements of this band that had several problems in various countries. From Italy it was even expelled in 1969 with the ban set foot in the country.
's face in white makeup with large black circles (defined Corpse Paint, "Make corpses") was inspired by the warriors of the armed corpse popular in Nordic folklore. Would later become a hallmark of many heavy metal bands, but Arthur Brown was the first to use it on stage. Not content
Brown was performing wearing a helmet on his head that contained a flammable liquid, which was on fire when they went up on stage. Since the hat was made of metal, quickly became almost unbearable pain for the singer. During execution, many times it happened that the burning liquid coming out of the box, setting fire to the hair and clothes. In one case, Brown was saved by the intervention of security that he poured beer on his head to shut it down.
The song was regarded as particularly outrageous. Brown introduced the same reasoning as the cry "I'm the god of Hell's Fire" and the song ended with the sinister hiss of the wind.
must be said, moreover, that the ears of the public Saxon name Hell's Fire drew a series of secret clubs arose in England in the eighteenth century and known just as Hellsfire
Club is not clear what exactly did the members of these circles (which members were part of the most powerful English aristocracy) also se è certo che avessero un orientamento paganeggiante e dionisiaco.
Tra i frequentatori dell’Hellsfire Club figura infatti anche lo scienziato e filosofo Benjamin Franklin, who was a great lover of the fire among his many inventions are the lightning rod and a special stove that bears his name, also gave birth to the first fire insurance and the first corps of volunteer firefighters. But above all it was one of the fathers of the revolution that would inflame the Thirteen Colonies overseas leading to the birth of the United States of America.
The song sung by Arthur Brown, however, was inspired mainly by the motto of Hellsfire Club, "do what you want", and rather should be included in the spirit of rebellion and transgression ("Sex & Drugs & Rock & ; Roll ") that characterized those years.
